Mott MacDonald is at the forefront of developing flood mapping
techniques for strategic flood risk assessment
Flooding can have devastating human and economic consequences for
the communities affected – as witnessed by those in Bangladesh
during 2004 and in the UK 2007. Climate change is causing flood
risks to become more severe, particularly through the impacts of
rising sea levels and more frequent extreme weather events.
Increased urban development, changing patterns of land-use and
higher standards of living are also significant contributory
factors.
We’ve developed innovative and exemplary skills in floodplain
mapping techniques, integrated with geographical information
systems, digital terrain models, and hydrological and hydrodynamic
modelling to define the extent of active floodplains. Our
experience extends globally.
Our approach to flood management concentrates upon the
environmental, sociological and sustainability issues that are
becoming increasingly understood as fundamental to a holistic flood
management strategy.
Our expertise covers:
- asset management
- catchment management
- flood forecasting
- flood risk assessment
- flood risk mapping
- flood defence
- GIS and LiDAR
- hydraulic modelling and engineering
- hydrology and hydrological analysis
- integrated urban drainage
- resource planning
- sustainable urban drainage
