Jo Baker, sustainable transport expertWith
almost 20 years consultancy experience Jo Baker is an experienced
project director in our integrated transport team.
From 1997 to 1999 he was the technical co-ordinator of the
JUPITER-2 project, a €35 million demonstration of clean vehicle
technologies part-funded by the European Commission's Thermie
programme. Jo was responsible for the day-to-day management of the
project, which involved the specification, procurement,
introduction, demonstration and evaluation of over 100 electric,
CNG and clean diesel buses and other vehicles in seven European
cities –Liverpool, Aalborg, Bilbao, Florence, Gent, Heidelberg and
Nantes. From 2003 to 2005 Jo supported the cities of Preston, La
Rochelle and Ploiesti in the inception of the SUCCESS project
funded by the European Commission CIVITAS programme.
From 1999 to 2005 Jo was part of the co-ordination team for the
DfT-funded Clear Zones initiative which promoted the use of clean
vehicles and fuels and other technologies for improving the urban
environment. Jo also has extensive knowledge and experience of
mechanisms for reducing vehicle fuel consumption and emissions
including demand management techniques, road user charging, and
promoting sustainable travel choices. He is currently supporting
studies of demand management funded by the Transport Innovation
Fund programme in the West Midlands and Norwich.
Jo has a vast range of experience of projects to improve social
inclusion through improved accessibility, contributing to DfT
Research into Accessibility Planning and the use of Taxis in Rural
Areas.
